Muenster cheese originates from America, creamy yellow in color with an orange rind. It is mild in taste, smooth to eat and made from cow’s milk. There is a French cheese with a similar name, Munster, but it's a completely different cheese.
The cheese is very high in fat, approx. 30g per 100g so seek out low fat varieties which should reduce the fat content to approx. 18g per 100g.
It provides a good source of vitamins A, B1-B3, B5, B6, B12, D, E, K, calcium, protein, phosphorus, potassium, selenium and zinc.
It is very good for building healthy teeth and bones. Other Muenster cheese benefits are believed to include added protection against both colon and breast cancer.
Cheese in general contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Studies of CLA have shown that it helps with weight loss.
Whilst we don’t generally recommend supplements as we believe all nutrients and vitamins should come from eating healthily, this is one supplement you may want to consider if you are giving up cheese as part of your weight loss program.
